Scamming you through insurance fraud.

Though we all would like to believe that every company we deal with is ethical and would never scam us just for a dollar, some people will do anything to make a buck, despite how wrong it is. No matter what promises they make, it is important to look at what procedures they actually use and how much profit they actually make for the work that they do.

These are some of the things that companies will do if they are simply looking for profits, not if they are actually trying to contain a mold problem. For example, a company will have an inspector on the books, who does “free” inspections for potential clients. Some insurance companies will hire companies that work with remediation companies and inspectors in order to skew results in their favor. In some instances, these inspectors will not even look for mold and give your property a clean inspection, simply to protect the insurance company. In other instances, they will create a false positive, in order to bring revenue into their remediation company.

If a company cooks your house, especially if the turn on all the fans and start fluffing the furniture, they are simply trying to get a higher mold count. In the case of insurance fraud, however, they will tamper with their sampling tools to show a lower count. Then, in some instances, the inspector will not be required to take samples at all. Instead, he will just have a look around. If he does not see anything, he will pass the property.

Avoid It: The only way to avoid being scammed by a mold inspector or a remediation company is to have all of the facts and then to hire a company who is open and honest about their business practices. It is always best to not hire a company that has their own inspector—look for an inspector that works independently of insurance companies and remediation companies, and actually has your best interests at heart.
